St Mark’s Vacancy Update
Further to Victoria’s announcement on the 30th June on her being appointed to the role of Associate Archdeacon for Bromley & Bexley which will take effect from 1st October, the Venerable Allie Kerr, Archdeacon for Bromley & Bexley, met with the standing committee of the PCC on the 2nd July.
At this meeting Archdeacon Allie discussed the timeline and the process of the interregnum, and the following was agreed:
-
The pre-section 11 meeting (which is the preliminary vacancy meeting) has been scheduled for the 24th July with Archdeacon Allie. This meeting is important because the archdeacon will explain the PCC’s role in the appointment of its next incumbent, outline the process and approximate timetable, and explain the agenda for the subsequent formal meeting, called the Final Vacancy Meeting (or Section 11 Meeting).
-
Archdeacon Allie will be consulting with you, the wider congregation on the 18th August directly after the service (at which she will be preaching), as part of the process to ascertain what St Mark’s is looking for in a new incumbent. This visioning event is anticipated to last around 2 hours. Refreshments (including sandwiches) will be provided.
-
Archdeacon Allie has also kindly agreed to preside and preach at midnight mass.
Allie was very clear about being committed to offering her support to St Mark’s and walking alongside the church wardens (Richard Collins and Emile Akabi-Davis). Allie listened to the concerns and questions raised at standing committee, she commented how there is much to rejoice about what happens at St Mark’s, and offered her advice and guidance on finding a positive way forward. Importantly she reassured those present that she will do whatever she can to ensure that the interregnum lasts for as short a time as possible, and that the right person is found for St Mark's in the shortest possible timeframe.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the church wardens.
